UP UP AND AWAY

I started to learn to fly in 1997. I fly at Cambridge Airport in Hobart, Tasmania in a Cessna 172. I usually hire my planes through the Aero Club of Southern Tasmania and Tasair.

I often refer to the newsgroup rec.aviation.student which has been interesting to find out what other students are doing in other places. I was scared witless the first time I went up but my confidence gradually increased with each flight. I completed my student license in 1997 and my private license in May 1999 so that I can fly into wilderness areas in Tasmania and where I wish (within reason). Flying becomes an addiction after a while and life seems pretty boring without being able to fly now and then.

Mantras from the internet on learning to fly

  1. Trim to the airspeed, power to the numbers
  2. Patience, patience, patience
